On Playing violin and pianist, Stephen Coombs

Susie and Stephen Coombs perform Schumann Sonata for Violin and Piano Op. 105 at Balliol College, Oxford to celebrate the 85th birthday of Alan Montefiore, 2011.

Here I’m playing the violin. If there’s one great advantage to the violin,  it’s the incredible breadth of wonderful repertoire. Much though I love playing the viola within my quartet, I’ve also hugely enjoyed my role as first violinist in the Fitzwilliam Quartet and leading the Kent Opera orchestra under the baton of Ivan Fischer

Apart from being a wonderful pianist, Stephen is a Russian orthodox priest. He is a solo artist for Hyperion and is a gold medallist at the first Liszt competition in Hungary. You can see an interview with Stephen and flautist, Ileana Ruhemann with Dr Timothy Ewers
